Laugh-It Keeps Us Young

Two Senior WomenTwo elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, “Now don’t get mad at me…..I know we’ve been friends for a long time….. but I just can’t think of your name! I’ve thought and thought, but I can’t remember it.
Please tell me what your name is.”

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, “How soon do you need to know?”

Tailgaters Give Back!

Tailgator
by Brian & Sharon Clair

Did you know every time you purchase a hamburger, hot dog, bratwurst, etc. from the Tailgaters here in Sun City Carolina Lakes, you are giving back to the community? Yes, ALL the profits are donated to the SCCL Residents Fund for future use and needs for the entire community. They are donating $700 per month to improve our community.

Take the time to “thank” the team leaders – Tom Churilla, Fran Sherman, Jim Mayer, Bill Souffrant, Sig Hart, Gladys Berkley & Jim Odendahl – and the many volunteers. They truly know the concept of “Giving Back”. Get involved today and join one of the teams.

They will be serving an All American Fare at our Labor Day Festivities
coming up on Monday, September 5th from 5:00 – 6:30. Our resident band, “Well Seasoned”, starts playing at 6:00 PM on the back patio. Plan to participate and have a fun picnic dinner. When you go through the line, take a minute to extend your appreciation to the team of Tailgaters that make it happen.

Summer’s behind us. Autumn joys are just ahead.

Happy Labor Day!

Horseshoe Club

Horse Shoeby Dave Robertson
The Pits at Turkey Point

July 2 was a big day for the Sun City Carolina Lakes Horseshoe Club. For those of you who walk their dogs on Saturday mornings, or take a stroll with friends or loved ones, or play pickle ball at the Pavilion courts, you may have noticed that the horseshoe pits have gone silent. This is not due to a lack of interest – but rather a move to a new venue. Those hardy souls of the Horseshoe club, and hardy souls they are, playing in the heat, the cold, and wet weather conditions, moved their “skills” to Turkey Pt., with the first competition taking place on the second of July.

There is a regular group of guys, and sometimes gals, that show up throughout the year with the only concession to the weather being to change the starting time. While the games are always spirited, and the competition usually keen, the real draw is the camaraderie. Relegated to just two courts for the past few years, the faithful nevertheless showed up every Saturday, even though they knew that with limited courts, they would have to wait their turn but then again, that was part of the fun – needling, cajoling, and supporting the other players.

When the opportunity came to build new courts at Turkey Pt., the Club jumped at the chance. After a series of setbacks, a plan was set in place to build four new courts, complete with a drainage system. The effort was long and arduous but the same dedication that was shown by the players every Saturday morning, surfaced again as volunteers willingly gave up their time and almost certainly suffered many a sore muscle as a result.

Now comfortably settled into their new ”home” for nearly two months the SCCL Horseshoe Club would like to extend an invitation to Sun City residents to join them every Saturday morning at 9am for a spirited game of horseshoes.

Kohl’s is NOT in Waxhaw!

Kohl'sFrom the Waxhaw Gazette: “We’ve had lots of calls asking where the new Kohl’s in Waxhaw is located. To help clear things up, it is NOT in Waxhaw, but at the corner of Tom Short Road and Rea Road. It does have a Waxhaw mailing address that is contributing to the confusion.” (H-m-m…Fort Mill or Indian Land? We get that one!) We just wanna shop! The closer to the SCCL gates, the better! September Opening.

Speaking of wine, are you having a party?

The average guest consumes four to six hors d’oeuvre per hour, according to the Culinary Institute of America. Something to keep in mind, as you gear up for the latest Sun City social event. Most popular appetizer seems to be the mini crab cake. Yum!
