What causes hail?
Strong gusts of wind called “updrafts” lift raindrops to high altitudes where moisture freezes. Weight allows those particles to fall, only to gather additional drops, which freeze together when lifted again. The repeated process helps to generate hailstones, which sometimes manage to fall to the surface.
