Walnut Creek Park Complex
After years in the making, Lancaster County is the proud owner of a new 60-acre, $7 million park complex in Indian Land – Walnut Creek Park. Residents of Walnut Creek joined the subdivision’s developers and county officials April 24 (2013) for a ribbon-cutting celebrating the park’s turnover to county control. The park includes two tennis courts, six baseball/softball fields, two soccer fields and two full-sized outdoor basketball courts, as well as a covered picnic area and a field house with park offices, concessions and restrooms. Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Director Hal Hiott said the park should provide a boon to the county’s economy as well. He said the county has already contracted with a company that will host baseball and softball tournaments there. “That starts May 4 and 5 and it’s going to be three times a month through September,” Hiott said. “We’re just excited to have it (the park), and ready to start programming.”

According to “Carolina Gateway”, Lancaster County School District will mark a significant milestone for Indian Land students May 1, with a groundbreaking for the new Indian Land elementary school. Wednesday’s groundbreaking is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the school site, 10251 Harrisburg Road, across the street from the BridgeHampton neighborhood. Cheesecake Anyone ??
I was so delighted to see Great Falls, the very small town just outside of Lancaster, Chester, and Rock Hill, South Carolina featured on the local WBTV’s Carolina Camera! Yes, “Ida Claire” you have made us proud!
The business began when one of the partners would bring in cheesecakes, homemade of course, to church functions. Next, one new flavor led to another, and what a business they have created, in Great Falls, South Carolina!
Their favorite still seems to be the original flavor, but every flavor is creamy, southern style. The owners have secret ingredients, like homemade vanilla flavoring, that add a special touch to the recipe. You can sample their cheesecakes at several local establishments in the tri-county area ranging from Lancaster, Indian Land/Fort Mill, right here in Sun City @ Blue Heron to Blackstock, S.C. A list of vendors can also be found on their website idaclairebakers.com. You can also see the variety of flavors they offer, but get ready; your taste buds will be set off! This incredible cheesecake truly lives up to its slogan, “As close as your freezer, but FAR from ordinary.”
Board Chooses Bid for New School
Lancaster County school board members tentatively approved acceptance of a bid for construction of Indian Land’s new elementary school during its March 19 meeting. The new school, which will be built at 10251 Harrisburg Road, is intended to serve students in the county’s densely populated northern tip. District officials hope to break ground on the new campus in mid-April for an August 2014 opening.
